Dr. Matthew French is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon with special training in minimally invasive surgery. Dr. French has completed over 3,000 advanced laparoscopic weight loss procedures and is fellowship trained in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Ultrasound. Dr. French performs all bariatric procedures and sees patients in the Covington, Metairie, and Slidell offices.

Bariatric surgery procedures to include the gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, lap-band, duodenal switch, and revisional bariatric surgery. Minimally invasive general surgery, micro-laparoscopy, anti-reflux surgery, para-esophageal hernia surgery, laparoscopic ventral and inguinal hernia repair.
Bariatric Procedures Performed:
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (Gastric Sleeve), Lap-Band® (Gastric Band), and revisions and conversions of previous bariatric procedures.
Credentials:
Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, board member for the New Orleans Blood Center, past board member for Volunteers of America of Greater New Orleans, recognized as a 2020 TOP DOCTOR by New Orleans Magazine.
Training Institutes:
Dr. Matthew French received his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University. In 2000, he completed a general surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. To further his training, Dr. French became fellowship trained in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Ultrasound.
Work Experience:
After completion of his residency program, Dr. Matthew French joined Surgical Specialists of Louisiana in 2001. Dr. French has been with the practice ever since where he has completed over 3,000 advanced laparoscopic weight loss procedures.
