Dr. Frederick Tiesenga is a board-certified bariatric surgeon focused on changing lives through obesity treatment options. Dr. Tiesenga has a passion for continual learning and innovation, and was one of the first bariatric surgeons to introduce Single Incisions Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) and robotic surgery. Training Institutes:
Dr. Tiesenga graduated from Calvin College with a Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry before going to medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. In 1996, Dr. Tiesenga graduated from a general surgery residency at the Metropolitan Group Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois.
Work Experience:
Following graduation from medical school and residency, Dr. Tiesenga joined a private practice group in 1996. In 2002, he founded New Hope Surgical Weight Loss Center, specializing in bariatric procedures. During this time, Dr. Tiesenga also became a surgical proctor, training other bariatric surgeons. In 2005, Dr. Tiesenga was appointed the Director of Bariatric Surgery at West Suburban Hospital and has since held other director and board roles at various Illinois hospitals. Dr. Tiesenga currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the Avalon University School of Medicine and the president of the medical staff at West Suburban Medical Center.
