Training Institutes:

Dr. Sugumaran earned a B.S. and M.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, then received his D.O. from Touro University Nevada. He completed a general surgery residency at USF Morsani College of Medicine (Bayonet Point), followed by fellowships at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial in advanced GI/minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, and at Barnes‑Jewish/Washington University in trauma, critical care, and ECMO—becoming the first bariatric-trained intensivist in the area.

Work Experience:

Dr. Sugumaran is the founder and CEO of The ONE Surgical in Tampa Bay, voted among Tampa’s Top Doctors in 2024. He combines bariatric surgery and medical weight-loss with high-level critical care, serving complex patients with cardiopulmonary, hepatic, renal, or oncologic comorbidities. Dr. Sugumaran works across multiple hospitals including HCA Largo and Mease Countryside, Mease Dunedin, and Morton Plant North Bay.
