Board Certified by the American Board of Surgeons, active member and fellow of the American College of Surgeons, active member of American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Whipple currently serves as the program director for the General Surgery Residency Program.

Training Institutes:

Dr. Oliver Whipple earned his medical degree from Mercer University in 1999, completed his general surgery residency at Memorial Medical Center in 2004, and went on to complete a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida in 2005.

Work Experience:

Dr. Oliver Whipple joined Memorial Health in 2005 and has since performed over 3,500 bariatric procedures and more than 2,000 robotic surgeries, including the region’s first robotic gastric sleeve in 2018. A leader in surgical innovation and education, Dr. Whipple now serves as the Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program at Memorial Health, where he also continues his clinical practice with Memorial Health University Physicians – Surgical & Bariatric Care.
